I replied back:
I am a trained facilitator, but the process is fairly simple. We read some basic rules and priniciples and then each of us has the opportunity to check in. People are encouraged to talk about just what has gone on in the last month, but, of course, sometimes people need to talk about broader issues or events which are bothering them.
From these check ins we try to find a common theme, and then people are encouraged to share something that worked for them or they would like to try –from their own experience. We discourage people giving each other advice, judging, commenting etc.
We recently changed from Tuesdays to Wednesdays at 6:30 and attendance dropped off, but in the long run it should be better, because NAMI has an Eastside forum once a month on a Tuesday, so people can now go to that and also make our weekly meeting.
Most of the attendees are usually middle aged, though we have quite a few in their 30′s and 40s right now.
Please write back or call me at 206 760-9215 if you have any more questions.
Thanks,
Brian
