I got our first email! The person asked what we do.

I replied back:

I am a trained facilitator, but the process is fairly simple. We read some basic rules and priniciples and then each of us has the opportunity to check in. People are encouraged to talk about just what has gone on in the last month, but, of course, sometimes people need to talk about broader issues or events which are bothering them.

From these check ins we try to find a common theme, and then people are encouraged to share something that worked for them or they would like to try –from their own experience. We discourage people giving each other advice, judging, commenting etc.

We recently changed from Tuesdays to Wednesdays at 6:30 and attendance dropped off, but in the long run it should be better, because NAMI has an Eastside forum once a month on a Tuesday, so people can now go to that and also make our weekly meeting.

Most of the attendees are usually middle aged, though we have quite a few in their 30′s and 40s right now.

Please write back or call me at 206 760-9215 if you have any more questions.

Thanks,

Brian

We’ve moved to Wednesdays at 6:30

The Connection meeting is now at 6:30 on Wednesdays.

We had 5 people last week, and we talked about ways  that worked for each of us to deal with depression.

I’ve gotten several calls from people who say they want to come this coming Wednesday.

The NAMI-Eastside Connection Support group has a blog!

The Connection group is for patients or anyone who thinks they have a mental illness.

Submit a comment, or you can reach me by calling Brian Youngberg at 206 760-9215.

The Connection blog is designed to provide participants with information about the group. It will be a forum about using the Peer-to-Peer class tools, Wellness Recovery Action Planning etc.

The NAMI-Eastside Connection Redmond support group meets in the same building as the Redmond office. We are at Together Center 16315 NE 87th St., Redmond Washington. The NAMI office is in the front of building “B”. Go around the right of the “B” building to the rear of the right side and enter the door there. We in the Baker/Adams Conference Room. We meet every Tuesday at 6:30 to 8:00 pm.

NAMI-Eastside Connection Redmond is starting a phone tree, so we will be calling people who we haven’t seen at the meeting. Calling is a new program for us, though it is often used and can be a good support.
